Big defeat for the development team

On a sunny Sunday morning in Hollingbourne the U11 development team took on a young looking Sissinghurst team hoping to avenge their hard ball defeat suffered earlier this season.

Under the captaincy of Joe Salisbury, Bearsted won the toss and decided to bowl first. A first over wicket for Angus raised hopes but the Sissinghurst batsmen started to accumulate runs through steady boundaries helped by 32 runs in wides and no balls. They finished their 16 overs on 280-4 with further wickets for Haydn, Joe and a run out. Highlights were the bowling of Spencer P (2-9-0), Angus (2-4-1) and Joe (2-1-1).

Facing a steep but achievable target Bearsted needed to get off to a strong start, but they lost a first over wicket which they never recovered from. They then steadily lost wickets mostly through poor shots, while runs dried up with too many dot balls. The only highlight was provided by the second pair of Joe and Mo who added 18 runs including the only boundary of the innings from Joe. Finishing on a disappointing 199-10, Bearsted lost by 82 runs which was a fair reflection of the difference in the performance of the two teams.

Man of the match was Joe Salisbury who made an impact with the bat, volunteered to keep wicket and produced the best bowling figures, a genuine all round performance
