The lads faced Staplehurst at home on this fateful sunday. We were pleasantly suprised that this week the meet time was set to the correct time and not an hour early, cheers lushy. As is customary for the sunday team, half the side arrived hanging. Not to worry though as a win of the toss from lush and we elected to bat with zero hesitation. Westy and Kenny opened up first with Kenny taking number 1, who looked solid until missing a nicely bowled yoker and kenny was heading back to the pavilion for 1(3). Out stepped Norts who (yet again) had a point to prove, finding a few singles here and there. West and Norton looked like they were going to build a decent partnership, but Norton was bowled a good in swinging yoker and was gone for 8(16). *Lush editing the match report here - it wasn’t a Yorker and he just missed a straight one*. Next out came the worse for wear Lush who had told his top order to stay in, in the hope he wouldn’t have to bat. Well done to the boys for following orders. West and lush started to build a very decent looking patnership although Lush got off to a slow start, he was picking up runs nicely alongside west, until Westy decided he was getting bored and had a hurl at a yorker. Westy gone for 28(42). Outstepped Simon Barker to the crease on the stroke of drinks and once again it seemed a good patnership would open up. Lush then gets bowled a nice ball outside off and has a go at it and snicks off to the wicket keeper, lush was gone, hang on though! whats this? the steve benjamin who was sporting a fairly substantial hangover, decided that there was no noise there and lush decided not to walk even though he had middled it. Then simon gets bowled one on his pads and calls no run, oh no, nevermind baker has decided that it was out and somehow thought the ball was going on to hit the stumps, Barker was so fuming with this descision that he decided invent the BRS (Barker review system) and after alot of judgement (and alot of argument) the people have spoken and decided that it was infact, out. Nice one Si. Barker out for 9(13). In came Millen around, who was picking up runs nicely, millen played a nice cover drive and picks up an easy single but whats that? lushy decided there was no run there even though hes normally quick between the wickets and millen was run out as lushy stood his ground at the non strikers end, millen gone for 11(13). In came petty and it was now the time for all those 121 sessions with the skipper to come in handy. Petty was playing some nice shots until he got clean bowled by a 12 year old, but for some reason didnt think he was out? well done petty. Steve Benjamin stepped out to the crease next and like always made some top quality biffage. Lush got 100. Anyway Steve benjamin then departed after (yet again) another yorker benjamin out for 22(18). Finally outstepped the (now) well rested Jamie baker who clipped one off for 1 and then some top shots from lush (including a bomb that landed in the Fish on the Green) brought the lads to 228/7.

Stepping out to bowl it wasnt a big total to defend on the green but the boys were eager to get it started. Westy opened from the top end and somehow managed to take 2 wickets in the first over which gave all the lads a bit of hope. Westy opened up along side Baker who (now) had 6 hours sleep instead of the 5 he originally had curtosey of a nap on the pavilion sofa. We have all been there. Anyway baker opened up with some seamage and the third batsman slapped it up in the air to deep cover and a catch was taken to take staplehurst to 29-3. Norton and lush replaced the 2 openers and both found wickets quickly. There was a staplehurst batsman at the crease looking in very good nick, as he had scooped lushy for 4, then tried again to scoop and missed, and then did it again and missed and lushy still couldnt bowl it on the stumps. The batsman then made his way to the late 40s and chipped one up to deep cover, a simple catch that anyone could take, as had been proved earlier off bakers bowling. Lush makes his way round to it and for whatever reason falls on his backside and drops the ball. Cheers Lushy. This however was a common theme misfields were not few and far between, the boys were spilling runs everywhere in field all around which cost us dearly. Steve benjamin then came on for a bowl, now feeling a little bit better after his late night adventure in mu mu's. Yes thats right Steve Benjamin was in mu mu's until 3.30 am. Anyway he was bowling down the hill and did what lushy couldnt, bowled it on the stumps when the same batsman tried to scoop him. After this the boys edged closer to victory however after a few misfields the batsmen grew ever more confident at the crease. It came to the final over and west came back on and there was 6 to win. No worries we can do this, no nevermind westy bowls it outside off and the batsman slaps it over the infield for 4. Then with 3 balls to go with (yet another) slap staplehurst win by 3 wickets and our win streak comes to an end. An all around good effort from the boys until the last 10 overs. All jokes aside well done to Alex Lush for scoring 109*. His first ever hundred!
