This week to kick the league season off in style ,The Sunday XI Found themselves On the green playing against Bobbing Court and Lower Halstow,
feeling very confident after last week's thriller up at the Hollies.
Due to Captain student loan West finishing off his first Year at uni , Baker was yet again in charge to make sure everyone played accordingly to Westy's brief in the group chat.
Really all he and the team wanted to do was win the toss and bat so we could have a sit down for a couple hours before bowling...
Annoyingly the useless tosser lost the toss and we were asked to field
This didn't seem to be such a bad move, as we started very well, only conceding 23 runs off the first 10 overs with excellent early bowling from Lucas 6-0-13-0 and Lush 8-1-19-1 , they were both unlucky not too get a early wicket mainly due too the turgid defence of their opening bats.
To bring the breakthrough Evan surrey 5-0-18-1 was brought on, he bowled well , bowling their opener in his 2nd over.
From the top end Lewis Bedwell was brought into the attack, he bowled excellently causing some real carnage too there batting line up getting 4 bowled , via some lovely late swing and a Lbw to end up with great figures of 9-2-24-5 ,well bowled.
This made Baker panic so he decided to bring himself on to try burgle some wickets so either Lew, lush or Lucas, couldn't clean them up completely, he got an early wicket and ended up with okay ish figures of 6-1-2-33.
We eventually bowled them out in 34 overs for 118 after lush eventually managed to hit the stumps of their number 9, we generally fielded well and were happy with our efforts.
This low total gave us a lot of confidence and we actually thought we might chase down a total without a complete capitulation especially as they only had 10 players.
We opened up with Angus Kenny and Chris cut shot Filmer , Filmer looked good until he uncharacteristically cut one into the keepers hands for 2
This brought in Lucas and with Angus both looked very good with Angus driving well and Brookers punching hard off the back foot, they got us past 40 runs before Disaster struck; John [Jerry] Wayne Triggered Lucas LBW for 24 of 12 despite him being 2 metres down the track and nearly 2 metres tall.
This caused Harry Norton , who was clearly not keen to bat yet , to proclaim 'That is utter woke nonsense' leaving the entire team in tatters , moment of the day Harry.
Harry supported Angus well again until , Kenny stepped across his stumps for a well made 25 , this brought in Leo 'no byes ' petty, now regular readers will know this isn't often true but today it was... yes Yannick Oakland was in fact keeping but no byes none the less.
After harry got out smashing one down too deep square for 8, destroying the fielders hand in the process and Joe Batted for an entertaining 7, Evan surrey came to join Leo and they both batted excellently with a partnership of 38* to knock off the runs , with Evan playing some lovely drives and Leo bringing out his trademark ramp shot; Yes you did hear that he actually connected with one , as well as some more behind sqaure 4s to help him finish 35* off 36 and Evan 16* off 13, chasing it down in just 22.3 overs.
A great win by the boys and good start to the season
Thanks to Lush for the help
