This week the 2s were back home on the green [or should i say desert] to face West Farleigh , who had beaten us very comfortably at their place earlier in the season.
It was a crucial game and there was only a few points separating 3rd to 9th and both teams were in the thick of it, yet again the toss was very important due to the scorching weather conditions for the 44th game on the Trot...
Super tosser Pearce walked out to bat on the M25 ,with Manks with 260 plus being the aim and we got off to a decent start with Pearce punishing any miss in line and length, we had raced along to 60 for 1 after 10 with Paul unfortunately falling to a short ball for 6, this brought Splatts in and he batted well with Pearcy past drinks and kept the positive run rate going ,he joined in on the fun with a few nice 4s but then got out to a short ball by there opener for 17 , Filmer came and in played a rare cover drive and then departed for 5.
This brought in Matt with the hope of a similar performance to the last few weeks.. smashing it everywhere... And that he did , he started taking a liking to their experienced spinner biffing him to all parts he really got the run rate going and it allowed Pearcy to rest for a while as he has batted for approximately 300+ overs this year, Matt then decided he had had enough and fancied a bit of jug avoidance, departing for a well made 49 off 33 balls and top knock in the situation, Ollie Marriner joined in on the acceleration aswell with some excellent straight drives and abit of biffage over the leg side , This also allowed Pearcy to get to his 5th century of the season a truly excellent knock although in typical fashion didn't bother to take his cap off... Standards!
Ollie soon departed for a quality 25 off 30 , Norts then arrived for some more biffing [see the pattern here?] he made 23 off just 14 helping us get past the all important 270 mark.
The innings was finished off with a glorious straight drive from Stevie b and Pearcy not out on 122 off 106 balls Top knock skipper! , we had made 279.
After tea the familiar opening bowlers of Adamson and Baker started very well with matt striking with just his 5th ball with one of those fast nib-backers and Baker removing there captain in his second over with a nice catch by Marriner at deep mid-wicket , kudos must go to the skipper and vice for putting the field out as it really kept the run rate down and helped create a few chances.
After 10 overs, They were 57 for 2 and matt had been replaced by Steve b after a nice spell of 1 for 27 off 5 , it was at this point Baker got really excited and decided he fancied removing another 3 of there top 6 with the score now at 74 for 4 off 18 and him finishing with tidy figures of 4 for 33 off 9.
Stevie b bowled 4 overs for 28 and then was replaced by Freddie Salter who was looking good from the off , Slevin replaced Baker from the bottom end and also was looking decent, well apart from moaning about his foot again...
Slevin struck with a beautiful yorker in his 3rd over removing there final dangerous bat , it quickly transpired that we only needed 8 wickets as they had 2 players go down injured, wonderful lets get this finished off sharpish and on the beers... and that we did, Salter struck soon after with an excellent catch by Stevie B at long off, Slevin wrapped up the game 7 balls later with another bowled , we had bowled them out for 145 , winning by 134 runs , a clinical performance with the ball and in the field with 2 catches for Ollie 1 for Matt and 1 for Stevie
Good win that , well done lads onto next week against Farningham
Cheers
Baker
