Linton hold on to win

On Saturday Bearsted took on Linton to replay an earlier game which had been abandoned due to rain. There was no such concerns on Saturday as the game was played on the hottest day of the year.

After losing the toss, Bearsted batted first under the leadership of captain Drew Kennedy. Unfortunately things did not get off to a good start with a first ball run out for the opening pair of Angus and Luca, who struggled to score against some tight Linton bowling.
The next pair of Rob and Tom got the scoreboard moving, the French brothers continued the recovery with Louis hitting two cracking boundaries in the process, before Joe and Charlie (on debut) pushed the score to 248 with some very decisive running which put the fielders under pressure. However wickets continued to fall through poor shot selection and running between the wickets. The last pair of Leo and Drew this time failed to push the score on leaving Bearsted finishing on just 257-9. The score was well below par and left them with an uphill task.

After the interval, Bearsted knew they had to keep things tight as they could not afford to leak any runs with such a small total to defend. A first over wicket for Luca got them off to the perfect start as tight Bearsted bowling restricted the Linton opening pair. This was the pattern for the rest of the Linton innings as every time they looked to get ahead of the required score they lost a wicket. However the last pair managed to hold on to see Bearsted lose by a narrow margin of 14 runs, scoring 271-7.

The teams were very equally matched as evident from two very close games. For Bearsted their bowling and fielding was much improved but unfortunately they left themselves too much to do.

Wickets were shared out with a wicket each for Drew (a great caught and bowled) and Rob, and two each for Luca and Tom with his best bowling of the season. Mentions for Louis who conceded just 3 runs and will be puzzled how he did not take a wicket with a great bowling display, and for Leo who took a great catch and run out.
