Lenham mauled by the Bears

Playing their first mid week game, Bearsted looked to bounce back from their double defeat of the previous weekend against Lenham.

Bowling first Bearsted were full of intent and positivity, restricting the first pair to just 10 off their first 4 overs. After Henry made the initial breakthrough in the 6th over wickets steadily fell and runs dried up for Lenham in the face of some pacey if sometime wayward Bearsted bowling. Lenham finally got to 250-5, helped by 43 runs in extras. Wickets were shared out between Ollie (1-5), Alex (2-0), Henry (1-0) and Lucas (2-3).

Coming out to bat, Lucas lead from the front producing a captains performance, hitting 37 including seven boundaries and a six, as Bearsted got off to a flying start with 48 off their first 4 overs. Luca and Henry (8) continued the onslaught with Luca hitting 33 with five boundaries, in adding another 49 from their 4 overs. Charlie (5) and Tom (14) then hit another 32 runs. The runs slowed slightly for the next pair of Leo (16) and Rob (5), who unexpectedly lost a couple of wickets.

When the final pair of the French brothers came out to bat a score of 400 was still on the cards but despite a flurry of boundaries from Louis (22) a couple of more wickets and too many dot balls saw Bearsted finish on a huge 375-3, still easily their biggest score of the season. The winning margin of 125 runs was a fair reflection of the gap between the two sides and of the application of the Bearsted players. With 2 wickets, 37 runs and positive attacking field placing's, captain Lucas Brookman was deservedly named Man of the Match. But every player deserves praise for sticking together through some tough times and producing an excellent all round performance.
