After the disappointment of their defeat the week before Bearsted Under 11's took on LBJ on another sunny morning on the green expecting a tight game.
Captain for the day, Leo Petty, won the toss and decided to bat first, a decision which was to prove crucial as the Bears posted their highest score of the season.
Right from the off the Bearsted batsmen went for their shots, with opening pair Luca Callander and Lucas Brookman hitting 42 in their 4 overs. Luca inparticular tore into the LBJ attack hitting 3 boundaries and the teams first six of the season. Second pair Rob Maughan and Tom Wentzell continued to look to score before the third pair of Drew Kennedy (with 8 boundaries!!) and Leo Petty took up the scoring rate even further smashing an impressive 50 from their 4 overs. The last pair of Louis French (4 boundaries) and Alex GW kept up the onslaught hitting 44 from the final set of overs. By the end of their 20 overs Bearsted had accumulated 150 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket, by far the most impressive batting display of the season.
Replenished by interval drinks and a mountain of biscuits the Bearsted bowlers soon got stuck into the LBJ batsmen with tight bowling, enthusiastic fielding and a high energy performance from keeper Alex GW putting them under pressure. The initial breakthrough was made by Louis French in the 4th over taking two wickets in two balls. Wickets then continued to fall as Leo Petty 1-11 and Rob Maughan 1-11 picked off the batsment supported by Drew, Lucas and Tom who were all unfortunate to go wicketless despite some great bowling. Star of the bowling attack was Lucas Brookman who claimed the excellent figures of 6-8 including 3 wickets in the final over as LBJ stumbled to 29 off their 20 overs losing 11 wickets in the process to give the Bearsted their most convincing win of the season.
Bearsted Under 11's now move on to face Lenham in their next league game at home this Friday (6th July) at 6pm on the green where they will look to keep their momentum.
