It was definitely jumper weather in Pluckley as Bearsted turned up and quickly decided to have a bowl. Harry produced another excellent spell of bowling, taking an early wicket and unlucky not to add a second. Mark claimed 2 wickets and Steve 3 as the home side were reduced to 65-6, but their number 6 batsman was then dropped 3 times on his way to 64 before Harry came back to dismiss him. Lewis then claimed his first Bearsted Sunday wicket as Pluckley finished on 162-9 from their 40 overs.
After another excellent tea, the run chase began with Mark arriving very early on a short ball to give the bowler an easy return catch. Piers and Yannick then produced a 50 partnership to set Bearsted on their way, before Piers fell for 48 (likely trying to avoid being run out by the captain on 49...again...). Gareth was next to bat in an unfamiliar number 4 role, brought in to try to stop the recent batting collapses that had plagued the Sunday team. He and Yannick shared a 94 run partnership, including the familiar terrible running by the skipper but now teamed with the horrendous calling of a deaf man. Lewis came in to hit the winning runs as Bearsted won by 7 wickets - a third win in a row that takes them to 2nd in the table. Robin was clearly so overjoyed by the result he decided on an impromptu Pluckley pub crawl, taking in the delights of the Black Horse before realising it was the Rose&Crown that we were looking for.
