Sundays Second Sensational Success!

On a muggy Sunday afternoon, Charing won the toss (by bringing an umpire) and elected to bat. As always when fielding first, Bearsted were rushing out to field, all keen to make a lasting impression on the game. Steve Benjamin bowled 9 excellent overs to start and was unlucky to only take the 1 wicket (1 of 3 catches for Yannick 'no byes' Oakland). 3 early wickets put Charing on the back foot but they rebuilt through Neal Watts (61) and Jon Barrett (34) before Tim Chambers (63) bludgeoned his way to a quick 50. Ben Lush (3-38) came back to polish off the tail enders, leaving Charing all out for 216.

Having spent the majority of the fielding portion of the game chatting to various members of the public, trading stories with opposition players and admiring the craftsmanship of benches old and new, Gareth opened up the Bearsted innings keen to improve on his 15 off 58 balls from the previous week. Together with Raj (35), he (6 off 34 balls) put on 44 for the first wicket before Tim Lush was joined at the crease by Steve Pearce - together taking the score from 53-2 to 198-3 as Tim fell on 43. The over later all (other than Yannick who sat quietly contemplating a life of chasing down Sunday run records and never achieving them) stood to applaud as Pearcey hit his 4,000th Sunday ton, before watching Paul Tinker smash a six over Bell House to win the game.

A great all round team performance, with everyone contributing with either bat, ball or in the field - and an important second win of the league season. The league fixtures resume on 9th July with a first away fixture of the season at Upchurch.
