6 wicket defeat at home

The 2s slipped to a 6 wicket defeat at home against Eynsford, in a game that they could have won. In reality, the match ended much closer than had been expected given that the 2s had been 54/5 at one point.

After a 10 wicket win at Otford, Tim Lush (67) continued his opening partnership with John Haggart (0) but found himself reunited with Tim Croom, his regular opening partner after the first over as Haggart and Matt Kendall (0) were the first two of five ducks in the afternoon.

Croom (44) set about the Eynsford attack until he was next out at 49/3. Ben Lush and James Kersey quickly came and went without score leaving the 2s at 54/5. Sid Prajapat (45) then took over, hitting 45 in 20 balls including 5x6s and 2x4s, before he was caught on the long on boundary.

Alec Stichbury became the 5th duck, before Dave Vant (2) was run out looking for a second run, although he had nearly completed a third! Dave Wiseman (5) occupied the crease in an important stand of 39 for the 9th wicket before departing. Tim Lush was finally the last man out after batting right through the innings for a very well played 67 that underpinned a competitive 171 for Bearsted.

In the field, an early wicket for Sid Prajapat (1-33) and a couple of wickets for Dave Vant (2-34) in one over gave Eynsford a wobble at 54/3 but they eventually got home in the 37th over to win by 6 wickets. The Eynsford innings notable for two good catches behind the stumps by John Savage.

Next week sees the 2s make the short trip to the already confirmed division 7 champions, Hollingbourne.
