The 2s welcomed back skipper Tim Croom from 1st team duties for this away league fixture against Cudham & Wyse 3rd XI.
Winning the toss, Bearsted asked the opposition to bat on a green wicket which turned out to be distinctly lively and unpredictable.
Opening bowlers Jack Feehan and Ben Lush bowled well with no reward, but kept it tight as runs proved difficult to come by.
David Vant came on first change and opened up with a rank long hop which got an undeserved wicket. Vant then went wicketless for the next 8.5 overs, completing a miserly spell of 9-3-18-1. Chris Filmer bowled in tandem with Vant and took 4-34 in his 9 overs, including a sharp catch by Dan Skinner at slip, a good catch by young Harry Slevin and a caught and bowled that saw Chris take man and ball as he crashed Billy Vunipola style, into Ben Lush. There were first wickets for the Bearsted senior teams for Harry Slevin (1-16) and Simon Barker (1-9), while Ben Lush (2-15) and Jack Feehan (1-25) returned at the end of the innings to pick up the wickets they deserved as Cudham Wise were bowled out for 124 in the 40th over.
Dan Skinner and Tim Croom opened up the chase after tea, with the skipper having made it clear to his partner that "we need to bat sensibly and not give away our wickets" promptly driving a half volley straight to the bowler.
Simon Barker hung around for long enough to get his eye in, before opening up his shoulders and hitting a swift 37, before Chris Filmer (38*) and James Kersey (10*), saw Bearsted to a 6 wicket victory with 7 overs to spare.
Thanks to Helen Turner for once again scoring the game.
A second win of the season sees Bearsted up to 8th in the table, with bottom placed Otford being next weeks visitors to the Green.
