After the previous weeks success with 10 men, the 2s decided to make this week a bigger challenge by only mustering 9 for an away trip to Hadlow. Dave Vant had the honour of leading the side, becoming the third skipper in 3 games.
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, Bearsted opened up with John Haggart and Dave Vant. A combination more likely to be seen opening the bowling provided Bearsted with a solid platform, putting on 58 before Dave Vant (25) was the first to go.
John Haggart found support from Jack Feehan (10) and Ben Lush (9 not out), but it was always a struggle with a depleted team. The score had reached 136 in the 30th over before Haggart was the was the 8th and final wicket to fall for a well worked 75. It was a good effort by the 2s, but could have been more had 5 of the batsmen lasted more than the collective 7 balls it took Hadlow to dismiss them!
Bearsted put up an excellent defence of the total, and looked to be favourites for the win for most of the second innings. The attack was ably led by Jack Feehan (3-11) and Ben Lush (0-33) with support from Paul Tinker (2-12), Dave Vant (1-39), John Haggart and debutant Harry Slevin who bowled a good first spell in senior cricket. Despite this and a run-out, Hadlow were able to scrape home for a 3 wicket win with 2.5 overs to spare.
Hopefully the team spirit seen from Bearsted can be carried forward to next weeks home match v Speldhurst, when the 2s will be looking to field a full side and get the season back on track.
