Bearsted 2s travelled to Eynsford for a top of the table fixture.
After losing the toss, Bearsted found themselves in the field. Steve Benjamin and Lucas Brookman opened the bowling, with little luck and were unable to make a breakthrough, although they were building the pressure with the score on 34 after 12 overs.
John Haggart was introduced to the attack and his first two deliveries looked ideal for the batsman to release the pressure. Luckily for us, the opener decide to slap a short wide one straight to Chris Filmer at cover to give us the first wicket. Haggart then proceeded to bowl an excellent spell, taking 4 of the top 5 batsman, returning figures of 4-39 in his 9 overs.
Steve Benjamin (1-27) finally got the wicket he deserved, before he was replaced by Ben Lush. Ben had the misfortune of bowling as Eynsford decided to try and accelerate. His 4 overs went for 35, before Tom Mullins was brought into the attack.
In his first game of the season, Tom bowled wicket to wicket getting rid of the Eynsford top scorer (courtesy of a good catch from Steve Benjamin), before running through the tail, clean bowling the final three wickets to finish with 4-12. One wicket short of a 5 wicket haul.
Lucas Brookman (1-26) picked up the other wicket to fall, and Eynsford were all out for 142.
After tea, John Haggart and Dave Latter got the run chase off to a good start, putting on 66 before Latter (27) was bowled. Tim Croom was next in, and next out, being hit on the pads and becoming Tom Mullins fifth wicket of the day, as he sent the skipper back to the pavilion.
John Haggart eventually fell for a fine 75 to add to his earlier wickets, before Simon Barker (4*) was forced to retire hurt with a shoulder injury. This left Chris Filmer (17*) and Ewan Coveney (8*) to see us home with 14 overs to spare.
Next week sees us at home at The Hollies where we will face Stonehouse CC.
