2s win on The Green

Bearsted 2s returned to action on The Green, making 6 changes to the starting lineup as they looked to get back on track after a defeat at Lenham the week before.

The opposition lost the toss (apparently I don’t get a “win” if they call incorrectly) and Bearsted chose to bat, despite the wicket having had some rain on it.

Tim Lush and Dave Latter opened the batting, putting on 103 before Latter was bowled for 59. Tim Croom (14) came and went quickly, allowing Chris Filmer to the wicket.

Tim Lush (62) managed to offer a return catch to the bowler, and Bearsted were at 173-3.

Simon Barker (48*) and Chris Filmer (67*) were able to up the tempo of the innings, finding the boundary with regularity, and getting the total to 288/3 from our 40 overs.

Bearsted fielded a youthful attack featuring Lucas Brookman and Flynn Armstrong, alongside Tom Judges making his first league appearance in 11 years, supplemented by the ever reliable Steve Benjamin and Ben Lush.

The bowlers were watched from the sidelines by the quarter of Horrocks, Slevin, Vant and Feehan. With almost 1350 wickets between them for Bearsted, they were going to take some pleasing.

Needing more than 7 an over from the start was always a tough ask, and when the opening bowlers combined figures were 4/21 from 15 overs the contest was effectively over.

Steve Benjamin (2-15) bowled well, and could have had more reward for his 9 overs. Lucas Brookman (2-6) coming down the hill bowled beautifully, with great control of line and length in his 6 overs. Of the miserly 6 runs conceded, 4 were via an edge through the slip!

Tom Judges (2-30) bowled nicely, interspersed with a couple of full tosses, including one straight to gully! Hopefully it is not another 11 years till his next league appearance.

Flynn Armstrong (1-21) bowled a useful spell, picking up his first senior wicket in the process. With Ben Lush (3-26) mopping up the tail, Luddesdowne were 100 all out and the 2s moved to the top of the table in Division 6a.

Next Saturday will see tougher opposition as we travel to second placed Eynsford.
