Bears complete a clean sweep in the 2nd qualifying round of the mini Super 8's tournament held at Lenham CC on Sunday 24th June.

Well done Bearsted Bears! Fingers crossed you have done enough to make it to the in the finals at the Kent County Ground, Beckenham on Sunday 19th August!

Match report by Harry Slevin, U9s Coach.

The Bears did exceptionally well on Sunday morning, winning three out of the three games that they played.

The first game we played was against Lenham Rovers. This was a comfortable victory with the Bears scoring 234 runs and Lenham scoring just 206. Our second game was against Lenham Wanderers which was a game that we knew we had to win as it would be them who we would be competing against to go through to the final. The Bears managed a comfortable win by over 20 runs against Lenham. Our final game was against Linton which was also a victory for the Bears. The Bears managed to score an amazing 250 runs compared to Linton’s 214 runs.

This means that overall we have we have won 5 out of 6 games in the qualifying tournaments which should mean that we progress through to the final. That is unless Lenham Wanderers have lost less wickets than us (as they have won the same amount of games as us).

There were some great individual performances today and here are just a few of them.

Caleb shone with the ball today taking two wicket maidens in just three overs. Spencer Benson-Dare had a great batting performance today hitting some great shots and in one case hooking the ball over the keeper and into the neighbours’ garden. Marvin has improved drastically taking a wicket with the very first ball he bowled. Oscar has also improved a lot for being able to bowl straight and taking wickets too. Rory had a good all-round performance today taking wickets and hitting several runs. Spencer Pitt had a great first tournament today and saved several runs in the field thanks to his ridiculously powerful throw. Max has improved on both his bowling and his batting, hitting the ball back over the quickest bowler in the tournament’s head, as part of a 2 over 17 run partnership with Angus in match 2, and bowling very straight. Cameron also had an exceptional game with the bat, hitting a variety of shots which all went for a least two runs each and one shot which went for four. As always, Angus had an astounding all round game, bowling economically and hitting 30 runs in just two overs.

Well done Bearsted Bears! Fingers crossed you have done enough to make it to the in the finals at the Kent County Ground, Beckenham on Sunday 19th August!

Thanks go to Harry Slevin for this match report and of course for his continued support in developing and coaching the U9s and of course to the parents, who continue to come along and provide great, and in some cases very vocal, support.

Training back on the Green this Sunday at 10am, subject to the Bearsted and Thurnham Fayre having been suitably tidied away for the year!
