On Friday 7th July we welcomed the local Beaver Scout Colonies to the Green for a fun introduction to cricket

Having been approached by the leaders of the local Beaver Scouts earlier in the year about getting involved in one of their evening meetings, we were more than happy to arrange a fun and entertaining introduction to cricket for their members on the Green.

So, on Friday 7th July around 35 children from the Falcon and Harrier Beaver Colonies arrived on the Green looking forward to a evening of cricket based fun and games.

Having arrived a little before the Beavers, the volunteer BCC coaches had arranged a number of games and drills including Hand Hockey, as a warm up (not that a warm up was really needed on a sweltering afternoon!) followed by some cricket drills in small groups, including Diamond Cricket, Hit the Stumps and Target Bowling.

There were some extremely enthusiastic performances on show and it was good to see the smiles on the faces of the children as well as some of the parents as the kids became more and more worn out! It was also good to hear that some of the Beavers would be interesting in carrying on with cricket at BCC, and in fact some have already come along to U9s training.

We hope that all of the children, who were aged between 6 and 8, had a great time on the Green playing cricket, and we look forward to welcoming the Falcon and Harrier colonies back again in the future.

Finally thanks to all the BCC volunteers on the day Carl Barker, Lewis Benson-Dare, Charlie & Sam Luxton and James Kersey - also thanks to Gemma Patton for arranging and serving much needed refreshments!
